Air Quality Alert Extended

Air Quality Alerts and Ozone Action Days have been declared by the ILEPA and IDEM as poor air quality will continue through Thursday, June 29. The dangerous air resulting from Canadian wildfire smoke are causing extremely poor air quality across the Midwest. Northern Illinois has seen air quality indexes in the unhealthy (151-200) and very unhealthy (201-300) ranges over the past several days.

According to the National Weather Service, the air quality is expected to remain less than ideal over the next 24-36 hours. This will result in translucent, overcast haze that can affect visibility. It is recommended that individuals avoid spending extended periods of time outdoors, particularly those with a chronic respiratory conditions.
